Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, abbreviated GWK , is a tourist park in the southern part of the island of Bali. This park is located in cape Nusa Dua , Badung regency , about 40 kilometers south of Denpasar , the provincial capital of Bali. In this culture garden area , planned to set up a landmark or mascot of Bali , which is a giant statue of Lord Vishnu who is riding his mount , Garuda , as high as 12 meters. Area Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park is located at an altitude of 146 meters above ground level or 263 feet above sea level.

In the region there is also a statue of Garuda is right behind the Plaza Wisnu is the Plaza Garuda where the 18 -meter tall statue of Garuda placed temporarily . At this time , Plaza Garuda becomes the focal point of a large hall carved limestone pillars which covers more than 4000 square meters of open space that is the Lotus Pond . Limestone pillars colossal and monumental Garuda statue make Lotus Pond a very exotic space . With a room capacity that can accommodate up to 7000 people , Lotus Pond has gained a good reputation as a perfect place to hold big and international events.There is also a statue of Vishnu hands that are part of a statue of Lord Vishnu. It is one step closer to completing the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue complete. This work is placed in the area while Tirta Agung.


About Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue

Designed and built by Nyoman Nuarta, one of Indonesia’s foremost modern sculptor, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue or GWK and its pedestal building will be standing 150 meters tall with its wings span 64 meters across.

Made from more than 4000 tons of copper and brass, the statue is picturing Lord Wisnu, as the source of wisdom, riding on the back of the mythical bird Garuda as the manifestation of conscience toward Amerta, the perennial goodness.

The statue and its pedestal will be surrounded by more than 240 hectares cultural park which was once an abandoned and unproductive limestone quarry. The cultural park will provide attractions for both local and foreign visitors with supporting facilities such as Lotus Pond, Festival Park, Amphitheater, Street Theater, Exhibition Hall, as well as Jendela Bali The Panoramic Resto and souvenir shop. At present time, the statue of Wisnu, the statue of Garuda, and the hands of Wisnu have been placed temporarily in three different plazas within the park.

GWK Cultural Park is intended to educate, especially the young generations about the importance of preserving and cultivating world’s cultural heritage.




The Statue of Wisnu

As the anchor point of GWK, the 20 meter tall copper statue of the Lord Wisnu has been placed temporarily on the highest hill of Ungasan where visitors can enjoy sunset or sunrise over the magnificent view of Kuta, Benoa and Sanur.

The statue of Wisnu is an illustration of the Almighty God in maintaining and caring all life and its being. The god Wisnu is the owner of Amerta in the form of water as the source of fertility , giving wealth and life to the universe.

The Statue of Garuda

Right behind the Plaza Wisnu is the Plaza Garuda where the 18 meters tall statue of Garuda placed temporarily. At the present time, Plaza Garuda becomes the focal point of a massive alley of carved limestone pillars which covers more than 4000 sqm open space area namely Lotus Pond. The colossal limestone pillars and monumental Garuda statue make Lotus Pond a very exotic space. With its room capacity that can accommodate up to 7000 people, Lotus Pond has gained good reputation as the perfect place to hold big and international events.

The Statue of Wisnu’s Hands

The statue of Wisnu’s hands was added to GWK Cultural Park in 2007. It’s one step closer to finishing the complete Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue. This piece was placed temporarily on Tirta Agung area. 


GWK Venues

With little rainfall and open to fresh tropical breeze, GWK facilities are ideal for all types of events, be it private or public, small or big, local or international. The first class acoustic environment of the 800 seat Amphitheater is peerless venue for intimate cultural performance. Enclosed by enormous limestone pillars with the Garuda figure as a backdrop, the dramatic Lotus Pond area has capacity at 7500, like the ceremonial boulevard of Balinese village. The Street Theater is suitable for processions, fashion show, and other mobile performances. The most intimate space, the Plaza Kura-Kura can hold 200 participants. In addition to the open public spaces, the Exhibition Gallery provides 200 square of covered area as well as ten square meter internal open courtyard. The newest venue in GWK is Indraloka Garden. With a beautiful view, it is one of the most appealing place for wedding and dinner party.

Jendela Bali The Panoramic Resto is the perfect place for your lunch or dinner with authentic balinese cuisine while enjoying the beautiful panorama of Bali Island.

Designed as a viewing café with the spectacular panorama of Bali, Jendela Bali is the most suitable place to end the day where visitors can enjoy the sunset and put the climax of their visit to GWK Cultural Park.

With the location of 300 meters above sea level, you can see two sides of the ocean that flank the Bali Island, with the west coast of Jimbaran and Kuta Beach, on the east coast of Tanjung Benoa and Sanur Beach with background of Mount Agung and Mount Batur. Also you can see the busy traffic aircraft at Ngurah Rai Airport, at dusk dusk you could see the sunset on Jimbaran Beach side, and at night you can enjoy beautiful twinkling lights that adorn the area of Jimbaran, Kuta, Tanjung Benoa and Denpasar City Area.
